Squadron Sponsoring Committee
Every Air Cadet Squadron must include and be supported by a local element of the League called the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC). 24 Red Deer Royal Air Cadet Squadron is a Parent Sponsored Squadron.
What does that mean?
Though there are no direct membership fees associated with participating in the Air Cadet program, there are however numerous expenses incurred by the Squadron that are not covered by the Canadian Armed Forces and therefore the responsibility falls to the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) to fund.
Although the Department of National Defense (DND) does cover many costs related to the program, (i.e., uniform, Officer compensation, and two field exercises per year) the SSC is responsible for covering all other costs, (Alberta Air Cadet League registration fees, band instruments, marksmanship equipment, Survive Air, cadet appreciation gifts and awards, administrative costs, field trips, Mess Dinner, Annual Air Cadet Review, cadet photos). These extra costs to run the program cost the SSC over $35,000 per year.
We rely on parents to volunteer their time raising these funds. The SSC holds various fundraising activities throughout the year that need your support. Without your assistance, the budget cannot be met and the cadets risk losing out on many activities. Each family will be expected to fulfill a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer time to support 24 Squadron activities.

We have many volunteer opportunities for the 2022/2023 Training year that will allow parents to fulfill their volunteer hours. Bingos, Home Show booth, bottle drives, Wine & Cheese fundraising team, Cash Calendar sales, committee positions.
Without your support, our budget cannot be met and the Squadron risks losing out on activities, which will in turn impact each and every cadet.
